UK dean tabbed as WSU provost

PULLMAN, Wash. —

University of Kentucky dean Steven L. Hoch has been selected as the new provost and executive vice president at Washington State University.

WSU officials announced Thursday that Hoch, dean of the UK College of Arts and Sciences, was chosen from among four finalists who visited the Pullman campus earlier this month.

Hoch (Hawk) succeeds Robert Bates, who will step down after six years as provost on July 1. Hoch's official starting date will be Aug. 1.

WSU President Elson S. Floyd says an 18-member search committee was impressed by Hoch's academic background and experience.

Hoch earned his bachelor's degree in history from Trinity College in Connecticut and his master's and doctoral degrees in history from Princeton.
