4 Ore. men cited for not having personal flotation devices
CLACKAMAS, Ore. — Clackamas County authorities have cited four men after their rafts capsized on the frigid waters of the Sandy River and they were not wearing life jackets.
The four rafters were found Thursday after they departed from the Dodge Park area of the Sandy River. Detective Jim Strovink says the men capsized while attempting to navigate what is referred to as the "pipeline" portion of the Sandy River.
The rafters were found safe after they were swept down river when their flimsy rafts began to take on water.
The water temperature of the Sandy River is reported to be a bone-chilling 42 degrees. Strovink says the Sandy is running high and swift, making for hazardous conditions.
Authorities say the four were each cited $242.
