Seattle police are investigating the shooting of a woman and her 10-year-old son Tuesday night in West Seattle. At about 10:30 p.m. police were called to the 5600 block of Delridge Way Southwest after a witness reported hearing 10 to 12 gunshots, said Renee Witt, police department spokeswoman. The female victim, 28, was standing in her kitchen when she was hit several times in the chest and leg by gunshots fired through the window, Witt said.
Then someone, "possibly the same shooter," fired several gunshots into the other side of the house, striking the woman's young son in the back of the shoulder, Witt said.
Both victims were treated on the scene and transferred to Harborview Medical Center, where they are expected to fully recover from their injuries, she added. Their names were not released.
Neighbors of the woman's rental home describe the duplex as a quiet property where several women and children live.
Homicide detectives and gang-unit detectives are investigating, Witt said.
The suspect may have driven a burgundy SUV, Witt said.
