Boy hit in Bellevue church parking lot
A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car in a church parking lot today shortly after noon and taken to Harborview Medical Center.
BELLEVUE — A 4-year-old boy who was run over by a car in Bellevue today is doing remarkably well, police said.
The Sammamish boy was run over by a Toyota Corolla in a church parking lot next to his pre-school just before noon today. While the boy was scraped up, he had no serious injuries, police said.
"The worst case scenario at this point is that they may have to give him stitches on his hips and side," said Officer Greg Grannis, Bellevue police spokesman.
"Considering he was actually run over by a car — not just knocked down, but the tires ran over his pelvis — we expected much worse. We're pleasantly surprised," Grannis said.
The Renton man who drove over the boy was not driving recklessly, and drugs and alcohol were not a factor, Grannis said. The boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center immediately after the accident, police said. His name has not been released.
In an additional "quirk" of this incident, the driver probably will not be charged or ticketed, Grannis said.
"It doesn't look like he actually committed a crime. And traffic infractions don't apply on private property," Grannis said. "It's a quirky case."
