Ill child rushed from boat to shore at Maritime Festival

Seattle's Maritime Festival got an extra dose of drama Saturday when firefighters took a 4-year-old girl off her tour boat and rushed her across Elliott Bay after she suffered a severe allergic reaction.

The Maritime Festival got an extra dose of drama Saturday when Seattle firefighters took a 4-year-old girl off her tour boat and rushed her across Elliott Bay after she suffered a severe allergic reaction.

The call came from an Argosy vessel around 3:45 p.m. during a day of parades and tugboat races. The fireboat, already participating in the festival, carried the girl to a waiting paramedic unit on shore.

She already had received a shot of epinephrine from her mother, so she was alert while medics took her to Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center, said Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick.
