Yakima-area youth coach pleads guilty to child rape
A Yakima-area youth basketball coach has pleaded guilty to raping and molesting three players from his teams.
Yakima County prosecutors are expected to recommend that 46-year-old Randy Sayler serve at least 23 years in prison. Under the plea Sayler entered Thursday afternoon, his sentence also could be extended by a state review board - and more charges may be filed if other players come forward.
He faces sentencing July 25.
Two 13-year-old boys and a 15-year-old told investigators they were sexually assaulted and molested by Sayler.
According to court filings, he admitted sexual misconduct with players on his Amateur Athletic Union basketball team in Yakima, Chelan, Spokane and Stevens counties. One was described as a 13-year-old friend of the coach's son.
