Kittitas County approves wind farm
Kittitas County commissioners have approved a 69-turbine wind farm in central Washington.
Commissioners gave the go-ahead for the $250 million project on Tuesday. It's the first project approved in the county's 500-square-mile wind energy overlay zone, an area on the county's east side that has been identified as being compatible for wind farms.
The Chicago-based energy company Invenergy Wind North America LLC proposed the project. The company still must make minor changes before a permit can be issued, but construction could start as early as October.
The wind farm will be 15 miles east of Ellensburg, between the Vantage Highway and Interstate 90.
