Olympia council ignores sanctuary city resolution

A resolution that would have made Olympia a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants and war resisters died in a city council meeting.

No one moved to consider it at Tuesday's meeting.

Several council members did criticize the action of some May Day marchers who broke windows in downtown banks and spray-painted graffiti on the Capitol building.

Councilwoman Rhenda Strub chastised demonstrators for not condemning the actions of the rock-throwers.

Mayor Doug Mah calls the resolution well-meaning but says it implies a problem that doesn't exist in Olympia. He also says he's concerned it would be contrary to state and federal law.
