Connell prison making room for 2,000 more inmates

The expansion of the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center at Connell will increase the city's population by two-thirds.

The 600-inmate prison that opened in 1992 is adding space for another 2,000 medium- and minimum-security inmates.

The $189 million project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Prison Superintendent Scott Frakes says the Department of Corrections is paying the city for water and sewer improvements.
