A 48-year-old man was arrested this morning in the fatal stabbing of a woman in her Pioneer Square apartment, police said.
The suspect was booked about 9 a.m. into King County Jail for investigation of homicide, said police department spokesman Mark Jamieson. He's been denied bail.
The victim, 49, was found about 1:30 a.m. by someone who went to visit her at the Frye Hotel, a low-income housing complex at 223 Yesler Way.
That person — it's unclear how he or she knew the victim — informed the manager, who immediately called 911, Jamieson said.
"There was obvious trauma to [the victim's] body," Jamieson said. "It was apparent that she had been stabbed."
Homicide detectives quickly developed information leading them to the suspect, he said.
"It appears the victim and suspect knew each other," Jamieson said. "This wasn't a random, stranger type of deal."
But, he added, the two were not dating nor in a romantic relationship.
"This was not domestic violence," he said.
