Snow in the weekend forecast for much of Washington state

The calendar shows it's spring, but the weather is more like winter across Washington state.

The National Weather Service is forecasting snow mixed with rain for Seattle on Friday night. The Cascades can expect more than a foot of new snow.

Weather service meteorologist Johnny Burg says the last time snow fell this late in the spring around Seattle was on April 17, 1972.

East of the Cascade Range, overnight lows are expected to be in the 20s with snow flurries possible through the weekend. An inch or two of snow is forecast for Saturday at higher elevations around Spokane and in much of the rest of Eastern Washington.
