April 10, 2006: More than 15,000 people from across the state, mostly Latinos, marched through the streets of Seattle to protest a bill that proposed a crackdown on illegal residents. The bill, HR 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005, passed the U.S. House, but not the Senate. The Seattle march was part of the National Day of Action for Immigrant Justice.
