Dias convicted of Tacoma-area rapes

A man was convicted today of 20 crimes, including rape and home invasion, in the Tacoma area.

A man was convicted today of 20 crimes, including rape and home invasion, in the Tacoma area.

Anthony Casper Dias, 28, broke into three homes in 2005 and raped two women in two of the break-ins.

A Pierce County Superior Court jury found Dias guilty of multiple counts of first-degree rape, first-degree robbery, kidnapping and first-degree burglary. Sentencing was set for May 2.

He is accused of 19 more crimes, including rape, in neighboring King County, with trial set to begin this summer.

He was arrested Nov. 8, 2005, after he was shot in the arm while trying to flee from police near a Federal Way apartment where he allegedly raped two sisters, ages 13 and 15, after constraining their mother with a leash.

Dias tried to commit suicide while in jail, reportedly after reading that police had DNA evidence tying him to a number of the crimes, authorities said.
