Des Moines, Wa. March 12, 2008. A dozen people were sent to area hospitals after a Metro bus stopped short while hitting a car turning into a parking lot along Pacific Highway South near 230th St. in Des Moines Wednesday afternoon. Medics attend to the driver of the car.
About a dozen bus riders and a car driver were taken to area hospitals Wednesday after a Metro bus accident on Pacific Highway South left afternoon traffic snarled near the Kent-Des Moines interchange.
Des Moines police said there did not appear to be any critical injuries suffered in the accident that occurred shortly before 2 p.m.
The Route 174 bus was southbound in the far right-hand lane on Pacific Highway South when a vehicle in the lane to the left cut in front of the bus in an attempt to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot, according to King County Metro Transit spokeswoman Linda Thielke.
The bus hit the car but was not heavily damaged, Thielke said.
"We had a bent bike rack," she said.
The names of those involved weren't released Wednesday.
