Shots fired outside Southcenter mall; one person injured
Gunshots fired Wednesday night outside Southcenter mall left one young man injured after an argument between two groups, police said.
Four to seven shots were fired about 8:30 p.m. after the argument escalated in a parking lot on the north side of the mall, Tukwila police Lt. Mike Murphy said.
The victim reportedly was conscious when he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition was not immediately known.
Four men were in custody late Wednesday night, KING-TV reported.
Frightened shoppers and mall workers huddled inside stores after the shots were heard outside.
Employees, customers and others who ran into Johnny Rockets restaurant were ushered into the back of the restaurant and the doors were locked until police said it was safe to leave, an employee told The Seattle Times.
Hannah Park, a sales associate at Abercrombie and Fitch, said she closed her store when customers who heard the gunshots began running through the mall. She said she hid temporarily in a back room with six co-workers and 15 scared customers.
"We have glass doors in the front and we didn't want people to get hurt," she told The Times.
No other injuries were reported.
