A Sultan-based national animal-welfare agency is offering a $5,000 reward for information related to a dog poisoning in White Center.
Mohawk, a 3-year-old chow mix rescued from Hurricane Katrina, is recovering at home after ingesting rat poison. Mohawk was featured in a Seattle Times story on rescued pets Aug. 30, 2006.
His owner regularly takes him to the Westcrest off-leash dog park, where she believes he may have been poisoned.
"I didn't see any rat poison, but people have reported seeing dead rats in the wooded area adjacent to the off-leash area," said Cammie Owen, of West Seattle.
Pasado's Safe Haven, which placed hundreds of rescued animals in Washington homes after Hurricane Katrina, has received reports of poisoned dog treats in West Seattle's Fauntleroy Park, said spokeswoman Amber Chenoweth. The agency asks that anyone with information related to the poisonings call 206-300-7218.
Owen said she has never taken Mohawk to Fauntleroy Park.
