TACOMA, Wash. — A young man charged with a fatal shooting at a high school in Tacoma has been found too mentally ill to stand trial.

A trial for 19-year-old Douglas S. Chanthabouly in Pierce County Superior Court was postponed indefinitely Tuesday. It had been set for Feb. 4.

He is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old Samnang Kok at Foss High School on Jan. 3, 2007.

Judge Ronald E. Culpepper committed Chanthabouly to Western State Hospital for 90 days of efforts to restore him to mental competence. The next hearing is set for Feb. 29.

Chanthabouly has a history of schizophrenia, but last summer he was judged competent to stand trial.
