Rail-corridor deal is delayed a bit
Port of Seattle officials now expect to sign a final deal sometime next month to buy the Renton-to-Snohomish rail corridor from BNSF Railway, a Port spokeswoman said Friday.
The two sides had been expected to complete negotiations by Monday, the day that King County's exclusive right to negotiate with the railroad was set to expire. The Port took over the county's position as the prospective buyer under a preliminary agreement with BNSF and the county.
Port spokeswoman Charla Skaggs aid officials anticipate signing a purchase and sale agreement next month, with the deal closing several months later. BNSF had agreed to sell the 42-mile line to the Port for $103 million, but the price may be adjusted if the railroad leaves all the tracks in place for possible future passenger rail service.

Injured greyhound dies after collision
A greyhound was fatally injured in a collision with another dog at the off-leash park in Sequim.
Merri and Russ Wilson, of Port Angeles, say their 3-year-old greyhound "Moon" was running really fast earlier this week when it ran into a golden retriever that was chasing a tennis ball.
Moon was thrown into the air and apparently suffered a spinal injury. The dog couldn't move and later died at a vet's clinic.
The Wilsons had adopted Moon about two years ago from Greyhound Pets of America.

Officer Glenn Bartlett says the man is in serious condition and recovering at a hospital.
The city's major-crime unit is investigating the shooting that happened after a deputy made a traffic stop at 2:40 a.m. Friday near a convenience store. A passenger ran from the car and was tracked by another deputy to an alley about two blocks away where the man opened fire.
Bartlett says the deputy returned fire, hitting the man. The deputy was not injured.
The driver of the car was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
Bartlett says investigators are trying to determine why the passenger fled and fired at the deputy.

Shower debate lands woman in doghouse
A 25-year-old woman was arrested for investigation of second-degree assault for getting into an argument with her boyfriend over whether his dog should be in the bathroom while the couple were taking a shower together.
A police report said the 26-year-old man wanted his dog to join them in the bathroom, but the woman objected Thursday night.
She told him if the dog wouldn't stay out, she didn't want to be his girlfriend anymore. He replied that maybe his next girlfriend would appreciate the dog more, and he called her a name.
The police report said the woman punched him in the face several times and the man dislocated his shoulder when the naked couple grappled. He told police his girlfriend threw a picture frame, which broke and cut him.
The woman was taken to the Kitsap County Jail in Port Orchard. Bail has been set at $50,000.
