Seattle

A transient man's body was found Tuesday morning in Myrtle Edwards Park, Seattle police said.

The city police were called about 10:30 a.m. by Port of Seattle police, who said a citizen had alerted them to a body in the park.

Police said it appears the man died of natural causes. His identity has not been released.

Snohomish County

Man guilty in fatal shooting

A 20-year-old Seattle man charged with killing an Everett man during a September 2006 house party was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree assault with a firearm.

Noel Caldellis will be sentenced Jan. 8. Jurors hearing the case in Snohomish County Superior Court began deliberating Monday and returned with a verdict late Tuesday afternoon.

Jay Clements, a 21-year-old University of Puget Sound senior, was trying to break up a fight at the party in Brier when he was killed, according to police.

The young man, who suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and buttocks, was in serious condition in the intensive-care unit at Harborview Medical Center on Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman. His name was not released.

Witnesses told police they heard four to five gunshots and saw several male teens running from the area.

Port Townsend

New routes floated for ferries

How about a ferry from Port Townsend to Edmonds, or maybe from Port Townsend to Kingston, Kitsap County?

Or how about a ferry from Edmonds to Clinton on Whidbey Island, or from Clinton to Kingston?

These ideas are being tossed around by Washington State Ferries as possible mitigation measures while the boat between Keystone and Port Townsend is out of service, possibly for a year or more.

They will be discussed today at a meeting in Port Townsend with ferry officials and Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond.
