Longtime Seattle radio host Larry Nelson died early this morning at age 70, according to KOMO news.

Nelson, a mainstay personality for KOMO-AM 1000, had been battling terminal lung cancer.

He died shortly before 3:30 a.m., surrounded by family, according to a Web site set up by his friends.

Larry Nelson hosted the morning show on KOMO for 30 years, starting in the late 1960s. He retired from the station in 1997.

This month, doctors informed Nelson he had stage-four lung cancer.
