A train has collided with a tractor-trailer in South Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Nobody was injured in the collision, though the wreck has closed the eastbound lanes of South Spokane Street.
Police were called to the 4:42 p.m. collision at East Marginal Way South and South Spokane Street and found a train had broadsided a tractor-trailer, police spokesman Mark Jamieson said.
Flashing lights and warning devices were in use at the railway crossing, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. The train, which was en route to the railroad's nearby Stacy Street yard, was traveling 5 mph and the crew sounded the train's horn and used an emergency brake but couldn't avoid colliding with the eastbound truck, he said.
The train hit the truck's trailer, tipping over both the trailer and rig and pushing them about 75 yards; a Volvo was then struck by the tipped-over truck, Melonas said.
The train tracks were not damaged, no train cars were derailed and damage to the locomotive was minimal, Melonas said. The collision occurred on a "side track" and so will not have any impact on Amtrak, Sounder or other freight trains, he said. The site was expected to reopen by 8 p.m.
Police are investigating the collision.
