A woman is dead, a man is in the hospital and a woman with a history of drunken driving has been arrested following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in south Seattle.

It happened about 1:15 a.m. today near the interchange with State Route 599 while a 1999 GMC Yukon was being pursued by the Washington State Patrol. Trooper Jeffrey K. Merrill says alcohol was involved.

The southbound sport-utility vehicle collided with a northbound 1988 Chevrolet pickup in the northbound lanes of I-5. A passenger in the pickup, 18-year-old Bawny B. McQuistin of Tacoma, died at the scene, and the driver, 19-year-old Eric Hillstrom of Tacoma, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The SUV driver, 27-year-old Cerrissa R. Christensen of Seattle, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and driving the wrong way. She also was taken to Harborview. Merrill describes Christensen as "a repeat DUI offender."
