A 38-year-old Duvall woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she made up claims about hurting her teeth on a McDonald's cherry pie and cheeseburger for which she collected $6,370 in damages.

Rebecca Ish pleaded not guilty last week to first-degree theft, first-degree attempted theft and two counts of filing a false claim, according to King County prosecutors.

In July 2004, Ish said she hurt her teeth biting a cherry pie from McDonald's and then later filed a $6,370 claim for dental work, according to charging documents. The Chubb Federal Insurance Co., based in New Jersey, paid the claim on behalf of the pie maker, the Oklahoma-based Bama Companies, the papers say.

Less than three months later, Ish said she bit into a piece of bone in a cheeseburger patty at a Woodinville McDonald's and then filed a $6,000 claim, according to the documents.

But this time, Chubb Insurance — and eventually Duvall police — investigated and discovered that Ish concocted both stories, the charging papers say.

Ish worked for a dentist near Redmond and apparently forged billing statements saying the dentist did the dental work for her, according to the documents.

Ish could not be reached for comment Monday.

She was charged by King County prosecutors last month and booked briefly into King County Jail on the charges last week before being released on bail.
