A 53-year-old man was shot dead last night, resulting from what detectives say was a long-standing feud between the man and his 23-year-old landlord.

King County Sheriff's detectives said the two men were fighting, and at about 7:15 p.m., shots were fired in the landlord's home in the 20300 block of 87th Avenue Southwest. The tenant, who rents a house elsewhere in Vashon, died from gunshot wounds.

King County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart said shootings in Vashon Island are "very rare" and detectives continue to investigate the incident.

The landlord was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of homicide.
