Some drivers are returning to Interstate 5 this morning, but traffic still appears lighter than usual.
At 7:10 a.m., state freeway cameras and maps show that northbound vehicles are moving easily past Boeing Field toward the Spokane Street construction zone. Earlier, there were slowdowns of about one mile.
Other northbound routes are flowing well, and traffic has been abnormally light on the West Seattle Bridge. A drive from California Avenue Southwest to South Lake Union, via the Alaskan Way Viaduct, took about 16 minutes.
Currently, the worst congestion is on I-405 from Renton to Newcastle, where traffic is stop-and-go. And the southbound Ship Canal Bridge of I-5 is clogged.
Construction work and lane reductions continue on I-5 northbound approaching downtown Seattle, where officials have urged people to take vacation, detour, telecommute or ride transit.
