Seattle police SWAT officers were in a standoff early Wednesday with a man who has barricaded himself in a home in the 300 block of Northeast 52nd Street.
The incident began about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the University District, where police were trying to arrest the man, who is wanted in connection with home-invasion robberies and also has several warrants, according to Seattle police.
As officers tried to arrest him at a friend's house in the 5000 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast, he fled and ran toward Green Lake, at one point running on Interstate 5. He then tried to break into several houses before holing up in an unoccupied home, police said.
Police evacuated houses surrounding the home where the man was holed up, and they were using hostage negotiators to try to coax the man out, police said.
Police said they believe the man has a handgun.
