City Council to vote on new skate park

The City Council is expected to pass a measure on Monday that will give a new home to the skate park that once was wedged between parking lots at Seattle Center. The skate park was scrapped to make way for a parking garage for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dave Namura, chief of staff to Councilmember David Della, said the council will vote to put the park in a courtyard between the Vera Project and Key Arena at the Center. A fountain there would be removed and artwork moved elsewhere to make room for the skate park to open next year, Namura said.

Tacoma

Fines begin today on new bridge

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. today, drivers who cross the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge without paying a toll will be ticketed.

The state Department of Transportation says between 41,000 and 44,000 vehicles have crossed the new bridge each day since it opened July 16. About 95 percent of them paid the $3 cash or $1.75 electronic-debit toll, according to The News Tribune of Tacoma.

Fines for not paying the toll will be $49 — $40 for the infraction and $9 that will go toward paying off the bridge loan.

The 5,400-foot span, parallel and south of the old bridge, is the longest suspension bridge built in the United States since the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was opened in New York in 1964.

Seattle

1 suspect booked in Everett chase

One of the suspects in a dramatic chase through the Everett Mall was booked early Saturday morning in the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and eluding police.

A second suspect, who was shot by an officer outside a Mill Creek Fred Meyer store, remains at Harborview Medical Center.

He had non-life-threatening injuries, but his condition was not available Saturday from the Snohomish County sheriff.

The incident began with an alleged car-prowling on Friday afternoon, but escalated into a chase across Snohomish County and a dash by the suspects through the Everett Mall, according to the sheriff's department.

Bellingham

Unconscious diver taken to hospital

The Coast Guard pulled an unconscious scuba diver from the water near Lummi Island on Saturday morning.

The 25-year-old woman was reported as not breathing and having no pulse after diving from a charter boat based in Bellingham.

The Coast Guard performed CPR on the woman before she was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Petty Officer Jeff Pollinger said.

While at the hospital, her pulse started, Pollinger said, but her condition was unavailable on Saturday.
