The driver of an RV that careened into three cars before falling into a ravine in Port Angeles has died, a Harborview Medical Center spokesman said.
Lonnie Owens, 51, from Fair Grove, Mo., was taken to Harborview for critical injuries Tuesday after the brakes on his RV failed as he and his family were leaving Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, fire officials said.
Fifteen people from the four vehicles involved in the accident were treated at Olympic Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said, including five members of Owens' family and a family friend, who were all in the RV. All but two were released from the hospital — Owens' wife and daughter remain in stable condition.
The RV collided with a vehicle at Park Avenue and Mount Angeles Road before slamming into two more cars at Race Street and Lauridsen Boulevard and falling into a 25-foot gully, said a Port Angeles city spokesman.
Three passengers were from Bellevue, two were from Florida and four were from France.
