January
• Officers Gregory Neubert and Michael Tietjen arrest George "Troy" Patterson for allegedly selling drugs; the next day he complains to police that the officers had planted drugs on him and roughed him up.
March
• A video highlights discrepancies between the officers' reports and the arrest, prompting a judge to dismiss charges against Patterson. Dozens of criminal prosecutions involving the officers are threatened.
April
• Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske clears the officers of using excessive force and planting drugs.
May
• A forensic expert, a King County Superior Court judge and a civilian police auditor raise questions about the accuracy of the arrest reports.
• The NAACP calls for Kerlikowske's resignation.
June
• A leaked draft report by a civilian-review board says Kerlikowske repeatedly interfered in the investigation of Patterson's arrest. The board calls for increased oversight of police.
• Mayor Greg Nickels orders the civilian director overseeing internal police investigations to review the Patterson arrest, the chief's role and the review panel's role.
