Mercer Island
The Mercer Island man struck by a police vehicle driven by a Mercer Island police officer Wednesday night was in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center Thursday.
The man was in the crosswalk at Island Crest Way and North Mercer Way on Mercer Island Wednesday night when he was hit by the police car at about 8:16 p.m.
He was transported to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.
Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident, including whether the police officer had a green light and whether glare from the setting sun was a factor in the accident, Mercer Island Police Chief Ed Holmes said.
He said the police officer involved in the accident is continuing his regular work schedule.
