A semi-truck driver fell asleep at the wheel near Snoqualmie Pass this morning, causing an accident that scattered his load — McDonald's French fries — all over Interstate 90, state troopers said.
State Highway crews had to sweep up the frozen spuds from the westbound lanes after the 9:30 a.m. crash that snarled traffic at the pass.
Troopers said Brian Peterson, 36, of Tacoma was driving west when he nodded off. Peterson's passenger, Robbie Felker, 59, of Enumclaw, was dozing in the sleeper cab, the State Patrol said.
Peterson's truck hit another semi truck that was stopped on the side of the freeway. The driver of that truck, Jonathan Jefferson, 36, of Naches, Yakima County, had just finished inspecting his trailer tires before driving over the I-90 summit.
Neither driver was injured, but Felker was treated for a possible broken nose, the State Patrol said.
Peterson was cited for negligent driving.
