When a car chase wasn't enough to elude police this morning, a 29-year-old woman leapt into Lake Washington and tried to swim away.
The woman was in a stolen car and sped away from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport parking garage without paying at about 5:30 a.m., according to the Port of Seattle.
Police chased her on to Interstate 405, and she stopped her car just off the freeway, in the 6300 block of Hazelwood Lane Southeast, in south Bellevue. She got out and dove into the lake while police watched, said Port of Seattle spokeswoman Rachel Garson.
With the help of a police boat and a private boat owner, officers nabbed the woman out of the water about 20 minutes later, Garson said.
She was arrested by Port of Seattle police on suspicion of car theft. She did not steal the car from the airport but entered the garage there, Garson said.
