OLYMPIA — The state Supreme Court has upheld the practice of taking blood samples from prisoners to get DNA evidence.

In a split decision, the court says the practice does not violate state and federal constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure.

The court ruled on six cases that had been consolidated for a decision and affirmed an appeals court ruling that supports DNA sampling from convicted felons.
