If you are not registered to vote, today is the deadline for registering in person with the King County Elections Office in order to cast a ballot in the Feb. 6 special election. The deadline for mail-in registrations has passed.
Voters will determine the outcome of measures in the cities of SeaTac and Renton, as well as the Riverview, Seattle and Snoqualmie school districts and four county fire districts.
Only voters who live in areas of the county with issues on the ballot can cast a ballot in the election. You can find out if you live in such an area or confirm your registration and find your polling place online at www.metrokc.gov/elections/pollingplace/voterlookup.aspx. Information: 206-296-8683.
Open enrollment
The Seattle School District's open-enrollment period runs through Feb. 28 for registering children who will start kindergarten in the fall and for students moving from elementary to middle school or middle to high school for next school year. The period opened Jan. 16.
Children who turn 5 years old by Aug. 31 are eligible to start kindergarten in September. The enrollment period is also for all other students changing schools and for students who will be new to the district in the fall. Students who apply during the open-enrollment period receive priority assignments for September. Assignment letters are to be mailed out the first week in April.
Information needed for registration, including enrollment guides, is available at district enrollment-service centers and at the Bilingual Family Center, and also online at www.seattleschools.org. Students may be enrolled in person at a service center, by fax (206-252-0761) or by mail. The district can tell you what documents are needed.
For information, call the recorded enrollment-information line at 206-252-0410 or the enrollment-services office's main line at 206-252-0760.
