The Issaquah School District named Bob Zimmerman, who recently retired from the district after 42 years of service, as acting principal at Skyline High School through the end of the school year.

On Wednesday, the district announced Zimmerman had accepted the position, left vacant when Ed Young resigned in November.

Zimmerman was hired as a teacher at Issaquah Junior High in 1963. During his years with the district, he served as vice principal at Pine Lake Junior High, principal for Liberty High School, assistant principal at Issaquah High School, and International Baccalaureate coordinator for Skyline High School.

Young's resignation followed a Seattle Times report in October about allegations that Young had failed to respond appropriately to complaints that a Northshore School District teacher had touched students inappropriately. At the time of the complaints, Young was an elementary principal in the Northshore district.

After the Times story, the Issaquah School District ordered an investigation into Young's handling of complaints about John Carl Leede, the former teacher Young supervised in the Northshore School District in the 1990s.

The Issaquah district halted the investigation after Young resigned.

The district also plans to hire a professional consultant to find a permanent Skyline principal, who will take over next school year. The process will include input from parents, staff and students.

The district also canceled Wednesday night's School Board meeting because of snow and icy conditions. The board had planned to name a new member to replace Mark Warner, who resigned in November.

The meeting will likely be rescheduled for Jan. 17, district officials said.
