Rising gas prices and more jobs helped King County Metro Transit boost its ridership 4 percent last year.

General manager Kevin Desmond said route changes also helped, especially in Southwest Seattle and the South County area.

Last year, a record 103.2 million bus trips were taken, an average 56 trips per county resident, up from 99 million the year before. Rider counts have rebounded from their decline in the economic slowdown of 2001-02.
