After the National Weather Service announced it was asking the public to name last month's windstorm, it got blown away by the number of entries.

Some 5,000 people entered the contest, which ended at noon today, according to meteorologists.

The names roughly broke down into three general categories: Christmas, wind and football.

The entries will be judged by a three-member panel from the National Weather Service and the winner will be announced by Jan. 15.
