Outage updates | Lights still off for 20,000 in Seattle; Eastside communities still waiting

As of this morning, about 20,000 customers in Seattle were still without power, said Suzanne Hartman, a spokeswoman for Seattle City Light. The Skyway and Rainier Valley areas of South Seattle are powerless, as well as parts of Montlake, Leschi and Madrona. Crews are working to restore power to homes in South Park, Normandy Park, Burien and the western portion of West Seattle.

Hartman said a majority of these Seattle City Light customers should have their power back on by midnight Monday. The utility encourages customers to report their power outage by calling (206) 684-7400.

(Note: As the utility repairs its main transmission lines later today, the number of homes without power could radically change, up or down, because the utility will have a more accurate map of lateral power lines that are damaged.)

Eastside communities still waiting for power

As of early this morning, Puget Sound Energy reported that the following areas may not have power restored until after Monday because of the extent of damage to the transmission system: the Cougar Mountain area of Bellevue, rural Woodinville, North Bend, Snoqualmie, Duvall, Carnation and Skykomish. The utility says its crews have repaired about half of the 85 transmission lines taken down by trees during the fierce windstorm.

Among the nine counties PSE serves, King County experienced the most damage and outages, with about 380,000 customers losing power. As of 6 a.m. this morning, about half of these customers still had no power. Only a small proportion of customers in Whatcom, Skagit, Jefferson and Kittitas counties remained without power.

The utility reported it had restored power to more than 70,000 customers in Bothell, Kenmore, Juanita, Kirkland, Bellevue, Issaquah Plateau and nearby areas on Saturday night.
