Man critical after being hit in crosswalk

A 76-year-old man was critically injured after he was struck by a car while crossing a street in a crosswalk in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

A 76-year-old man was critically injured after he was struck by a car while crossing a street in a crosswalk in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

A woman driving a Ford Taurus West on James Street was approaching Ninth Avenue when her vehicle hit the man, said Seattle police spokesman Sean Whitcomb.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the passenger in the woman's car had moved her vehicle from the crash site, he said, adding that both the driver and passenger provided misinformation to investigators.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Whitcomb said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and hit and run.
