A state trooper was surprised when, after asking a suspected speeder for his license, the man produced nearly a pound of cocaine.

The 27-year-old Seattle man was arrested after a trooper pulled him over Wednesday night for speeding on I-5 near Lynnwood, according to a news release.

The trooper asked the man to step out of his car, and while the man was getting out, the trooper noticed something in his pants pocket, according to the release.

The trooper asked if the item was the man's wallet. The man said it wasn't and pulled out a large plastic-wrapped package of cocaine.

The driver faces a felony drug charge as well as citations for driving without a license or auto insurance and speeding, according to the State Patrol.

The street value of the cocaine is about $10,000, according to the release.
