The 27-year-old woman critically injured in a collision while she was cycling in West Seattle Wednesday morning has died.
The woman, who suffered a severe head injury after she collided with a van, died Wednesday evening at Harborview Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released the woman's identity but is expected to do so later today after reaching a final conclusion on her cause of death, an investigator said.
Just before 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, a man in his 50s was driving south on 35th Avenue Southwest and was turning onto eastbound Southwest Graham Street, police spokesman Sean Whitcomb said Wednesday. The cyclist, who was traveling at "a good speed" north on 35th Avenue Southwest, struck the side of the van head-on, he said.
Because of all the investigative work, documentation and crime-lab analysis of evidence that still needs to be done, Whitcomb said it could be four months before the investigation is complete, he said.
