A 63-year-old man was hospitalized after suffering life-threatening injuries Wednesday night in a hit-and-run accident in Seattle's Central Area, police said.

An undercover police officer saw a Cadillac hit the man near the intersection of South Main Street and 23rd Avenue South about 9:40 p.m., said Seattle police spokesman Rich Pruitt.

The officer followed the Cadillac and called for backup. The luxury sedan stopped nine blocks from the accident site and the two men inside the car ran, Pruitt said.

As of 10 p.m., only the driver had been arrested, Pruitt said. The names of the man hurt and the driver were not released.
