Friday, August 11, 2006 - Page updated at 03:56 PM With repairs complete, Seattle Center Monorail reopensThe one-mile Seattle Center Monorail line reopened this morning, after more than $3 million worth of repairs and safety improvements. The monorail has been closed since two trains sideswiped each other Thanksgiving Day weekend. The damage has been repaired and an automatic braking system has been added to prevent a repeat occurrence. The city of Seattle tried to reopen the line July 18, but decided not to when doors and air-braking systems malfunctioned the night before. Operators have spent the last four weeks testing the trains. The monorail was built for the 1962 World's Fair, and typically carries 2 million riders a year.
