A number of organizations within the local Muslim community will sponsor a peace march and demonstration on Friday from a Northgate mosque to the Northgate Mall, and back. The march is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Idriss Mosque parking lot, 1420 N.E. Northgate Way, after Muslim prayer services. Traffic along Northgate Way will be disrupted by the procession. Police have been assigned for traffic control. Free screenings Free screenings for children and adults with learning disabilities, attention-deficit and behavioral disorders, motor-skill difficulties, autism, brain injuries and other challenges will be offered Friday at Seattle's Developmental Movement Center at 12351 Lake City Way N.E. Each screening requires a half hour and includes some initial testing and evaluation. To register, call 206-525-8038. New Montlake library The Montlake community's new branch library will open for business on Saturday with a dedication ceremony and grand opening party starting at noon. The new library is at 2401 24th Ave. E. If you can't make the dedication, the party will continue into the afternoon. The branch will be open until 6 p.m. For your information More than 400 veterans from across the country who are active in the Veterans For Peace anti-war movement will hold meetings here Thursday through Sunday. The group, whose membership includes veterans ranging from the Spanish Civil War to the current Iraq conflict, will hold its national annual convention on the University of Washington campus.
Getting around The Seahawks' preseason opener is Saturday evening, and Metro Transit will be running nonstop shuttle service from five area park-and-ride lots — Northgate, South Kirkland, Eastgate, Kent/James Street and Federal Way/South 320th Street — to Qwest Field. The fare is $3 each way. On Saturday, shuttles will run before and after the game. Shuttles will begin leaving the park-and-rides about two hours before kickoff and depart every 20 minutes or when buses are full. The last shuttle will leave for the game about 45-60 minutes before kickoff. The Seahawks play the Dallas Cowboys at 7 p.m. Metro's shuttles also are scheduled for all Seahawks home games this season. Can you help?
