Hendrix's brother denied cut of estate

A state appeals court on Monday upheld a lower court ruling that denied Jimi Hendrix's brother a portion of the legendary guitarist's fortune.

Leon Hendrix had appealed a King County Superior Court ruling in 2004 that determined he had failed to prove his stepsister, Janie Hendrix, unfairly influenced their father to cut him out of the will.

Jimi Hendrix died without a will in 1970 and his estate and the rights to his music were left to his father, Al Hendrix of Seattle.

When he died in 2002 the elder Hendrix left the bulk of his estate to his stepdaughter, Janie Hendrix, and nothing but a gold record to Leon.

Leon Hendrix filed the lawsuit — which spawned a court case rife with allegations of drug abuse, greed and adultery — against Janie for a share of the $80 million estate.
