Soldier held on bail after making Internet date with 13-year-old

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A Fort Lewis soldier has been ordered held on $50,000 bail, accused of making a date over the Internet to have sex with a 13-year-old.

The online girl was really a Thurston County sheriff's detective conducting a sting operation.

Frederick L. Wells, 23, was arrested Friday and booked at Thurston County Jail.

At a first appearance before Thurston County Superior Court Judge Thomas McPhee, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jodilyn Erikson-Muldrew said Wells was extremely predatory.

The female sheriff's detective posing as the girl had signed off her computer by 3:03 p.m. Thursday. The suspect reached their planned meeting spot by 4 p.m., Erikson-Muldrew said.

Wells was being held for investigation of attempted second-degree child rape, attempted first-degree kidnapping with sexual motivation, and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
