Immigration march expected to affect downtown traffic

Seattle Times staff

With thousands of marchers expected to fill downtown streets today as part of immigration rallies around the country, traffic will be affected.

The city is expecting 15,000 people to participate in the march, which begins at Judkins Park at 20 Place South and South Lane around 4:30. Marchers will travel to the downtown Federal Building on Second Avenue, where they will hold a rally.

Police say Second Avenue will be closed at Stewart Street and all cross streets between First Avenue and Third Avenue between Stewart and Marion streets will be closed.

Metro said that buses that travel Second and Fourth Avenues downtown will be rerouted, however Community Transit and Metro-operated Sound Transit service that is scheduled to travel on Fourth Avenue will stay on its regular route and make regular Fourth Avenue stops, with expected delays. Metro urges people to avoid downtown between 4:30 and 7 p.m.

For transit information call 206-553-3000. Reroutes will be posted online at transit.metrokc.gov .
