Tuesday, April 25, 2006 - Page updated at 09:45 PM Police fatally shoot man on Seattle's Capitol Hill tonightSeattle Times staff reporter Police fatally shot a man near a busy intersection of Broadway on Seattle's Capitol Hill tonight after they said he pulled a gun on them at a bus stop. Someone called 911 after noticing a gun poking out of the man's waistband at the bus stop near Broadway and East John Street, Seattle police spokesman Rich Pruitt said. When two officers arrived and confronted him about 8:20 p.m., he pointed the gun at them, though it's unclear if he fired it. One or both of the officers fired shots, killing the man, he said. Two people in an apartment across the street said they watched the shooting from their fourth-floor apartment. "First we heard a couple of gunshots and ran to the window," said Phillip Cruz, 21. "I saw the victim shoot two more shots. He just fell, and we pretty much saw him take his last breath." The two officers were sent home and placed on administrative leave, as is customary after such shootings. The officers are veterans of the department, Pruitt said, but no other details were available on them or the deceased. Copyright © 2006 The Seattle Times Company
