Oregon girls to stand trial on charges of trying to poison schoolmates

Two middle school girls will go on trial next month on charges of putting rat poison in the milk cartons of schoolmates.

The Associated Press

LAKEVIEW, Ore. — Two middle school girls will go on trial next month on charges of putting rat poison in the milk cartons of schoolmates.

The two will face charges of attempted murder because they plotted the crime, Lake County District Attorney David Schutt said.

"The girls had discussed it days and days before," he said.

The girls are accused of putting d-Con rat poison in the milk cartons of two other girls during Daly Middle School's lunch period in September. Authorities said, however, that the green, crystalline pellets hadn't worked their way into the milk before the victims drank it.

The trial is scheduled for Feb. 14. A hearing Jan. 23 will determine whether they will be released from custody. The two have been in a juvenile detention center for three months.
