Boat-show schedule changed

Because of the Seahawks' playoff game on Saturday at Qwest Field, the Seattle Boat Show, under way this week in the Qwest Field Event Center, will close early.

The last day for the Event Center's show will be Friday, closing at 6 p.m.

But the Seattle Boats Afloat Show at the south end of Lake Union continues through Sunday, closing at 5 p.m.

Show hours at the Event Center are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday, with an 11 a.m. opening on Friday. Information is online at www.seattleboatshow.com, or call 206-634-0911.

Martin Luther King Jr. tributes

Today:

• A march at 11 a.m. from Snohomish County Plaza, 300 Wall St., in Everett to the city's Events Center at 2000 Hewitt Ave., followed by a community celebration from noon to 1 p.m. featuring author Sherman Alexie as keynote speaker.

Thursday:

• King County's tribute, "United for the Common Good," with monologues and music from noon to 1 p.m. at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St. Free.

• University of Washington Health Sciences tribute at noon in the UW Warren G. Magnuson Health Sciences lobby, 1959 N.E. Pacific St. Free.

Getting around

Metro Transit will be operating special nonstop shuttle service between area park-and-ride lots — the Northgate Transit Center, South Kirkland, Eastgate in Bellevue, Kent/James Street in Kent and the Federal Way Transit Center — and Qwest Field on Saturday for the NFL playoff game between the Seahawks and Washington. Game time is 1:30 p.m. Shuttle rides are $3 each way.

Traffic watch

First Avenue South Bridge: Southbound Highway 99 traffic overnight Thursday will be diverted from East Marginal Way South to the 16th Avenue South Bridge, then onto southbound Highway 509 or back to Highway 99 while the First Avenue South Bridge's southbound lanes are closed for installation of a spare hydraulic cylinder underneath the bridge deck.

Southbound bridge lanes will be closed at 10 p.m., along with the southbound Highway 99 onramp from East Marginal Way South. All lanes and the ramp will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.

The bridge work also will have some effect on boat traffic on the Duwamish Waterway. First Avenue South Bridge openings for tall boats will be restricted during bridge work.

Information is online on the U.S. Coast Guard's Web site: www.navcen.uscg.gov/lnm/d13/default.htm.

Everett: Closure of Interstate 5's southbound lanes at 41st Street will be more than an hour earlier than initially scheduled tonight and Thursday night to give crews more time to set 42-ton girders in place across the freeway as part of a freeway expansion. All southbound lanes will close at 9:45 p.m.

One lane will reopen at 4 a.m., and all lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Southbound traffic will be detoured off the freeway at 41st Street (Exit 192), and detour signs will be posted for the route back to the freeway.
